Go to Overseerr
Login with your plex account
Authorize access when Plex asks (this links your Plex account to the request system).
Use the search bar at the top.
Type the exact title (recommended), or include:
Year (for movies) to avoid duplicates/remakes
Season (for TV shows) if you only want a specific season
*Tip: If multiple results appear, pick the one that matches the correct year, poster, and language.
When you open a movie or TV show page, you may see one or two request buttons, depending on your permissions.
If you see only Request
Click Request
→ This will request the standard (HD / Full HD) version.
If you see Request 4K
You are a 4K-enabled user.
To receive the content in 4K quality, you must click “Request 4K”.
Clicking the normal Request button will request the non-4K version instead.
Important:
If you want the 4K version, always use Request 4K.
4K content is stored and managed separately from standard versions (4K movies and TV shows)
Requesting a Movie
Open the movie page.
Verify title and year.
Click Request or Request 4K (if available and desired).
Requesting a TV Show
Open the TV show page.
Choose:
All Seasons (recommended), or
Specific Season(s)
Click Request or Request 4K (if available).
Before confirming the request, you must select a Quality Profile.
The available profiles define how the system searches for quality and audio languages.
Default profile: “Maggio” (Recommended)
This is the default and recommended option.
Characteristics:
Target quality: Full HD 1080p (highest priority) or 4K if the user is allowed
Audio preference:
Italian + Original audio (preferred)
If Italian is not available, it will download Original audio only
Quality fallback logic:
If 1080p is not found → tries 720p
If 720p is not found → tries 480p, and so on
In short: Maggio prioritizes availability while still aiming for the best possible quality and audio combination.
Profile: “Italiano”
Characteristics:
Target quality: Full HD 1080p (highest priority) or 4K if the user is allowed
Tries to download only versions with:
Italian and Original audio
Quality fallback logic:
If 1080p is not found → tries 720p
If 720p is not found → tries 480p, and so on
No language fallback!:
If a file with both Italian and Original audio is not found, nothing will be downloaded
Use this profile only if Italian audio is mandatory.
Profile: “Hungarian”
Characteristics:
Target quality: Full HD 1080p (highest priority) or 4K if the user is allowed
Tries to download only versions with:
Hungarian and Original audio
Quality fallback logic:
If 1080p is not found → tries 720p
If 720p is not found → tries 480p, and so on
No language fallback!:
If a file with both Hungarian and Original audio is not found, nothing will be downloaded
Use this profile only if Hungarian audio is mandatory.
There are two types of users in the system:
Users without approval requirement
Their requests are accepted immediately.
After submitting, the request will move directly to processing.
Users with approval requirement
Their requests must be manually approved by an admin.
After submitting, the request will have the status Pending Approval.
The download will not start until the admin approves it.
Once your request has been approved (or immediately, if you do not require approval), you can monitor the download progress directly from Overseerr.
How to do it:
Go to your requested content page in Overseerr.
Click on the gear icon (⚙️) next to the request.
A detailed view will open, showing:
Current download status
Progress
Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA)
This allows you to check whether the content is downloading, queued, or close to completion without needing to contact the admin.
👉 You can see an example of the gear icon and status view in the two images above
Note: The ETA is an estimate and may change depending on download speed, queue priority, and availability.
If you want, you can receive notifications from Overseerr when the content you requested changes status (for example: approved, downloading, or available on Plex).
To receive notifications, you must:
Go to Overseerr → Settings.
Enable Web Push Notifications.
Allow notifications when your browser asks for permission.
Download and install the Overseerr app (see the next step).
Once enabled, Overseerr will send you notifications related to your own requests, so you do not need to manually check their status.
Overseerr is not a native mobile app, but it can be added to your phone’s home screen and used like an app. This is required to properly receive Web Push notifications.
On Android
Open Overseerr in Google Chrome.
Tap the three-dot menu (top right).
Select Add to Home screen.
Confirm.
An Overseerr icon will appear on your home screen and behave like an app.
On iPhone / iPad (iOS)
Open Overseerr in Chrome or Safari
Tap the Share button.
Select Add to Home Screen.
Confirm.
The Overseerr icon will be added to your home screen.
This step is necessary to reliably receive notifications. Notifications work via Web Push, not via a native App Store app. If notifications do not arrive, make sure:
Notifications are enabled in Overseerr settings
Notifications are allowed in your browser settings
You are opening Overseerr from the home screen icon, not from a normal browser tab
Once added to the home screen, Overseerr behaves like a lightweight app and can send notifications when your requested content becomes available.
Once processed:
The content will appear automatically in Plex under Movies or TV Shows. (try in recently addedd)
4K titles will appear in the 4K libraries (if enabled for your account).
Processing time depends on availability and queue load.
